Happy Father's Day and thank you! This is to my father and all the fathers out there who have put in so much for the family. If you are a father, your children would probably be feeling this way even if it is not expressed, so do accept this acknowledgement.
In the asian context and perhaps in some other cultures, the father is usually the silent pillar of the family, providing strength and a sense of security to the family. The father may be the main or sole breadwinner for the family, shouldering great responsibilities and yet remain silent about it. This role may be somewhat diminishing in the modern world where it is now a common thing for both husband and wife to be working, earning dual income.
While the mother's nurturing role bonds and grows a family, do take heart that the father's role is equally important and the presence of an involved father is crucial to the family; physically, mentally and emotionally. Research has shown that children who have involved father during their childhood have higher self esteem and are more confident in facing life's challenges.
Perhaps the below statement sums it all.
Thank you, my father for being my hero. You have spent most of your time to provide for the family, working shifts, holding 2 jobs at one time, just so that we could be well taken care of. We did not even know back then, during the 1986 financial crisis when we were still schooling, that you had been retrenched. You shouldered it and did not want to affect us. I only knew it when chatting with you a while back. Thank you for all that you have done for us, raising 3 graduates in the ardous process. Thank you.
Today, I'm also very grateful that my 2 daughters gave me a surprise. My elder girl, in collaboration with her mum and younger sister, had told me that she is going to play with her classmate. Little did I know that she actually went to get me a cute little cake. The younger girl made me a huge paper medal ribbon, a card and bought me 2 mini cakes and a toy!! That's fun and I really appreciate it. Thank you my dear girls! Below is the photo of me and the gifts. 🙂
