Spread Your Light – Help Victims of Philippines Typhoon Haiyan

Super Typhoon Haiyan made landfall onto the Philippines on 8th November 2013,
bringing sustained winds of more than 300 kilometres per hour.
Communities in Visayas suffered direct hits,
with death toll surpassing 3,680 with close to 4,000,000 left homeless.
The effects of this Philippines typhoon are massive.

If you are reading this, you are much more fortunate than a lot of people in the world.
You have access to shelter, a computer and internet access.
4,000,000 people are homeless in Philippines due to this natural disaster.

If you are spending time with your family and friends over the weekend and everyday,
the people in the Philippines also share this desire….
if their family and friends can be found…alive.

As such, this is an appeal to you – to spread your light and help in whatever way that you can.

One way would be to support an event – Learnathon 2013.

Learnathon 2013 is a project initiated to raise funds to support crisis relief effort for
victims of the Super Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda in Philippines

Donations will be channeled to Mercy Relief, a Singapore-based charity
that provides humanitarian aids on the ground in Philippines
(http://www.mercyrelief.org/web/Common/homepage.aspx).

Learnathon 2013′s model is based on running a seminar conducted
by six trainers who specialize in wealth-creation knowledge and expertise.

It aims to have 400 participants in the seminar donating a minimum of $100 per head.
It will also generate additional revenue through an auction,
a free-will offering, and sales of learning products and services.

The target is to raise $100,000 between 18 November to 2 December 2013.

The organizing committee comprises of 50 volunteers,
each of whom is assigned specific roles and responsibilities.

Promotion of the event is through word of mouth, online promotion,
and social media marketing.

The expenses are kept to a minimum as it is a volunteer-driven project
and it leverages on free online tools and resources.
